Smart Buildings

Revolutionizing Modern Spaces

The Challenge

As the world becomes increasingly connected, the Internet of Things (IoT) and smart systems are emerging as transformative drivers in the economy. By 2020, over 25 billion devices are expected to connect wirelessly, unlocking opportunities to enhance energy efficiency and building functionality. However, integrating these technologies to reduce energy consumption, improve comfort, and support independent living presents significant challenges for both new and existing buildings.

Objective

The Smart Buildings project aims to develop a comprehensive IoT-driven solution for building management. By integrating building functions and management systems, the project seeks to reduce energy consumption, enhance occupant comfort, and support independent living for vulnerable groups such as elderly individuals.

The strategy

The Smart Buildings project combines advanced IoT platforms, innovative sensor technologies, and real-world pilots to address energy efficiency and user comfort in both commercial and residential settings.

Energy Efficiency and Comfort

The second pilot takes place in Eindhoven’s Smart Home, where the focus is on leveraging Smart Building data to develop applications that enable elderly individuals to live independently and safely at home. These innovations aim to enhance the quality of life and promote inclusivity.

Integrated IoT Platforms

Integrated IoT Platforms

VTEC Lasers & Sensors leads the development of advanced IoT sensor systems, providing real-time data collection and analysis. By integrating these technologies, the project ensures seamless building management and actionable insights for optimizing energy efficiency.

Data-Driven Solutions

Data-Driven Solutions

Simaxx offers a brand-independent platform that collects data from various building systems and converts it into relevant information for users. With over 200 buildings already connected, the platform enables significant energy savings while expanding its functionality to include bi-directional communication and cluster management.

Funding Recognition

The Smart Buildings project receives co-financing from the OP Zuid program (Development Program South Netherlands), supported by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). This funding acknowledges the project’s potential to drive innovation and transition toward a low-carbon economy through advanced IoT solutions.

Forward Momentum

The Smart Buildings project marks a significant step forward in transforming building management systems. By leveraging IoT and smart technology, the project aims to redefine energy efficiency, improve user comfort, and support a sustainable and inclusive future.
